Maddie turned 3 in May! She is such a big girl now :) Maddie was born with lissencephaly and miller-dieker syndrome. When she was born, she was very tiny for a full term baby and her head circumference was unusually small as well. She ended up in the NICU because she needed some oxygen and was having difficulty regulating her body temperature. After a head ultra sound, MRI, and blood tests we were informed of her diagnosis. The doctors made it sound very grim and we started this journey with Maddie feeling sad and overwhelmed. One week after her birth we took her home and that's when we started feeling happy and more positive with each day. We got to know our sweet little girl, we realized she was going to create her own pathway in this world. The doctors and statistics would not determine her life and what she could accomplish and learn. Our family has come so far since May 2011!! We have found our own "normal" and enjoy each and every day that God gives us to spend with the best little girl in the world!!! :)
